Prepare Chicken recipe
- Season chicken with seasonings (per recipe below).
- Marinate in refrigerator for 2 hours or overnight.
- Bake for an hour until golden brown. Add bbq sauce then bake for another 15 minutes.
How long to Bake Chicken Drumsticks at 400
Bone-in-skin-on chicken drumsticks take about 60 minutes to cook at 400F. No need to cover or flip the chicken.
To ensure the chicken is cooked at a temp of 165, use a meat thermometer.
You can also check for doneness by using your fork and pulling the meat apart. If there’s no pink inside, then your chicken is all done.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with using pre-made bbq sauce. We did say, easy recipe, right?
Our favorite store-bought bbq sauce is Baby Rays that I find at my local grocery store.
When looking for the perfect bbq sauce, my suggestions are smokey, sweet, and tangy.
What to serve with Chicken Drumsticks
Serve drumsticks with and cabbage, cornbread dresing, collard greens, southern yams or mexican corn.

Sweet and Sticky Chicken Drumsticks
- 8 Chicken Drumstick
- 5 Thyme stems
- 1 tsp Mustard
- 1 tsp Alspice
- 1 tsp Nutmeg
- 1 tbsp Garlic
- 1 tsp Ginger
- 1 tbsp Paparika
- 1 1/2 tbsp Slap yo mama
- 1 tbsp Jerk seasoning
- 1 cup Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- Mix all seasonings into a small bowl.
- Marinate the chicken for 30 minutes to an hour or overnight.
- Place chicken on a parchment-lined pan. Bake for 1 hour.
- Brush with bbq sauce, then cook on broil for another 15 minutes until sauce is sticky.
- Enjoy !
Recipe NotesNo need to flip the chicken. Allow it cook all the way through for the 1hour. Then, top it off with bbq sauce and broil for the last 15 minutes. Garnish with parsley or green onions if desired. You can substitute bone-in chicken thighs in this recipe.
