Teriyaki Chicken is a super easy recipe. Grilled skinless chicken thighs coated in a beautiful flavored homemade sauce. A hint of ginger adds a twist on a traditional Japanese chicken recipe.
Im all in for a easy good chicken recipe if you know what I mean. Teriyaki Chicken has to be the most popular Japanese dishes you'll get if your eating out right? Do yourself a favor and make it yourself! Its grilled to perfection, yet still tender and juicy.
What is Teriyaki?
So, what is Teriyaki? It is a common Japanese dish that’s popular in a lot of restaurants. It's also a Japanese cooking technique where the meat is broiled or grilled with a glaze made of soy sauce, mirin, and sugar.
For this Japanese Chicken Teriyaki recipe, we marinated the meat to add depth of flavor then pan-grilled, so the exterior has those bold grilled marks, which is simply addicting.
How to Make Teriyaki Chicken?
This truly is such a simple recipe. All you have to do is marinate the meat, make extra sauce while you wait, grill the chicken, and serve! Here are the basic steps to mastering this :
1. First, clean your chicken then add it a bowl.
2. Mix in all the teriyaki sauce ingredients inside of the bowl. Allow to marinate for 30 minutes – 2 hours.
3. Make extra teriyaki sauce: Throw all your sauce ingredients in a small pot and bring to a boil and let cook until thickened, then set aside.
4. Cook chicken on a heated grill pan for 7-10 mins on each side.
5. Slice the chicken, then serve with rice.
Can You Make This Ahead?
Yes, you can make the marinade ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator. You can also marinate the chicken ahead preferably, overnight. By marinating the chicken ahead of time, there will be more time for the meat to absorb the marinade.
CHICKEN SELECTION
Aside from boneless Chicken thigh, you can substitute this with boneless Chicken breast - for a lean protein choice. Just make sure to cut them in uniform pieces for even cooking. You can also try out different meat like beef, pork, or even tofu, adjust the cooking time based on the meat you pick.
GOT SOME LEFTOVERS?
You can store the chicken in a container inside the refrigerator and it should be good for a week. Now if you want to store them for a longer period of time, you can place the chicken in a freezer-safe container and you can store it for up to 2-3 months. When you're ready to eat it, thaw it overnight in the fridge and reheat it the next day. However, this is not advisable as it may lose some of its flavors.
WHAT TO SERVE IT WITH?
Serving this flavorful dish with rice is a no brainer. Pair it with some veggies and you have the perfect meal! Your family or friends will surely keep coming back to have a taste of this dish. Here are some veggie dishes to pair it with:

followed the recipe but used with some frozen mahi mahi defrosted this morning...omitted the mirin bc I didn't have it on hand. didn't have oyster sauce either so instead I substituted 1/2 hoison 1/2 soy sauce. had to use fresh ginger instead of the powder ginger and marinated the fish for at least an hour. hella easy and simple with a bang of flavor! served with some green beans and white rice. thanks for sharing!!!

Hi, You will have to look at it when you purchase because each pack weighs different but don't worry about purchasing too much chicken you can always freeze it for later. For this recipe you should use 8 pieces of chicken 🙂
