How To Fry Chicken Wings
Deep frying might seem scary or dangerous, but I can assure you it is not as bad as you may be imagining.
Fried chicken wings are one of the most delicious things on the planet, and in this part, I’ll tell you how to perfectly fry chicken wings.
- Use a large saucepan (it is best if it’s deep rather than long and flat) or a deep fryer if you have one, and heat oil to around 350°-380° F. Cover half of the pan with oil or enough to cover the top of the chicken wings. Try not to put too many wings in the saucepan to ensure they cook evenly and you do not risk burning yourself with spilled oil.
- Fry in small portions for about 8-10 minutes (flipping them every 5 minutes or so). The goal is to have golden-brown chicken wings.
- Once you take them out, pat them dry on paper towels and place them on a baking rack.
Note: If you did not pour the necessary amount of oil and you just found out when you dropped the first chicken wing, you have two options: either you keep frying and turn the piece of chicken around once it is nice and crispy on the bottom; or, you remove the chicken wing, turn off the heat, wait a few minutes until the oil is not as hot as before and then you pour more.
Adding more oil when it’s hot will“cut”the cooking process and leave your food greasy since you’d be adding cold oil to hot oil. And, it is important to leave the oil to cool down to prevent it from burning while trying to heat the portion you just added.
What Part Of The Chicken To Use For Raspberry Jalapeño Wings
Before diving into the recipe, I want to talk about which part of the chicken to buy for raspberry jalapeño wings. There are two common types of chicken, called drumettes (or drums) and wingettes (or flats).
The first one is referred to as the small chicken legs with only one bone running through the middle of it. As for the second type, they’re flat and have two small bones along the length of the wing.
The difference between this and the first part of the chicken mentioned is that wingettes tend to have less meat but have crispy skin.
You can choose either of these types mentioned for chicken wings and you’re guaranteed an excellent result. They can be found in stores and are very affordable and tasty.
What Type Of Oil To Use For Frying Chicken
The type of oil you choose to use for this spicy chicken recipe can influence the result, and you surely want to buy the right one for your recipe for hot wings. A good rule of thumb is to choose oils that have a high smoke point, such as peanut, lard, and vegetable shortening oil.
Also, make sure to not overcrowd your pan since it can lower the temperature of the oil, risk dropping hot oil on your stove and ending up with soggy chicken wings.
Despite the type of oil you end up using, make sure to pat dry your chicken wings on paper towels to remove the excess oil. If you don’t do this you’ll end up with greasy and not very tasty wings.
Why Use Peanut Oil For Deep Frying
In this raspberry jalapeño wings recipe, I used peanut oil, and I must say it makes the biggest difference in comparison with using other types of oil.
Peanut oil has a high smoke point and doesn’t develop off-flavors when frying, unlike other vegetable-based oils that tend to do that. Further, peanut oil is excellent for achieving a crisp texture in your recipes, dearly beloved by children, so if you’re looking for the best oil for deep frying jalapeño wings for kids, you have your answer.
Peanut oil can be easily found in supermarkets as well as online stores and is affordable. You know how much I love budget-friendly recipes!
How To Make Raspberry Jalapeño Sauce
I found this raspberry jalapeño sauce to be the absolute best partner to fried chicken wings. It is a spicy and sweet addition that goes great with chicken recipes as well as with meat. Making the jalapeño sauce with raspberries doesn’t take long, and it takes the recipe to a whole new level.
Simply add the raspberry jalapeño sauce to a saucepan and start stirring, then add butter and keep cooking for a few minutes. Finally, add the water and continue stirring until you’ve achieved a thick consistency (similar to barbeque sauce).
Tip: you can buy the raspberry jalapeño sauce or make it yourself by combining raspberries, jalapeño puree, lemon juice, cornstarch, and water.
Enjoy your ultimate raspberry jalapeño wings for wing Wednesday (or any other day of the week that calls for spicy chicken wings).
