Homemade Creamy Potato Au Gratin

Creamy Potato Au Gratin is traditional comfort food, rich, creamy, and cheesy. However, it takes effort to put it all together, but it’s worth the time! Using my method, I will show you how to put together this cheesy potato goodness.

Ingredients
  

  • 5 lbs Rustic Potatoes
  • 6 cups Water
  • 1 tablespoon Salt

Creamy Cheese Sauce

  • 3 tablespoon Butter
  • ¼ cup All purpose flour
  • 1 cup Onions
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1 tablespoon Djon mustard
  • ½ tablespoon Chicken bouillon
  • 1 tablespoon Tony’s seasoning
  • 2 tablespoon Garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon White pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 3 Thyme stems
  • cup Colby jack cheese

For Layering

  • 2 cups Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 ½ cup Colby Jack

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Butter 3-Inches x 9-Inches x 2.5-Inches deep casserole dish.
  • Wash potatoes and slice ¼″ thick (no peeling needed). Soak potatoes in hot water and salt for 30 minutes. Drain and pat dry.
  • In a medium-size saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Mix in the ¼ cup flour, salt, 1 cup Onions , 2 cups Milk, 1 tablespoon Djon mustard , ½ tablespoon Chicken bouillon, 1 tablespoon Tony’s seasoning, 2 tablespoon Garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon White pepper, ¼ teaspoon Nutmeg, 3 thyme, ⅓ cup Colby jack cheese and stir constantly with a whisk for one minute. Cook until mixture has thickened.
  • Put a little bit of the cheese mixture in the bottom of a greased casserole dish, 3-Inches x 9-Inches x 2.5-Inches, or an oven-safe pan. Layer cheese mixture, potatoes, cheese sauce then shredded cheese. Repeat layers ending with cheese.
  • Bake at 400°F for 1 hour covered and 30 minutes uncovered, until hot and bubbly. Enjoy !
